Money is a Lousy Motivator

There are many, many reasons why money doesn’t always work well as a motivator.  Yes, sometimes it works very well, and yes, we’d all love to be paid more!   I’m not suggesting money isn’t important!   But what a pay check mainly does is get people to show up week after week. In terms of engaging people’s hearts and minds and loyalty, money doesn’t always do it because if you focus solely on the money you may be in danger of climbing aboard what’s called the “hedonistic treadmill”:  you get a raise, and then pretty soon that raise becomes your new norm. You’re used to it, and it suddenly doesn’t feel like it’s enough money!

For true results, and for true motivation, never look to money alone.
