1. Smells Like a Good Idea to Me!

Since we talked about noise in the workplace last week in
honor of International Noise Awareness Day, let’s slide
on over to another sense: namely, smell.

According to a study reported in the Journal of Business
Research, success smells most like oranges with a hint of
lemon. Yes, this citrus-combo is the scent most likely to
increase a shopper’s desire to spend! (So for you salespeople
out there, might I suggest a little eau d’ citron aftershave?)

But wait! There’s more! Laughing has been proven to improve
our sense of smell, so the next time you want to wow your
boss, client or colleague, get them laughing, then blast
them with a little citrus mister, and you’ll have them
smelling out of your hands!

2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip

Speaking of smelling lemons. . . who says lemonade stands are
just for kids? Set one up in your office hallway or waiting
room as a fun and simple way to raise money for a local
charity or the social committee.

3. Quote of the Week

“If life gives you a lemon, make lemonade. However, if life
gives you a pickle, you might as well give up, because
pickle-ade is disgusting.” Clifton J. Gray

4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World

A ten-year old girl trying to raise money for the Tsunami victims
by selling lemonade in front of her house in Miami Beach, was
refused an occupational license for the stand! Now THAT stinks!
