1. It’s Not too Late to Break Before You Break

Welcome back. Or I guess you should be welcoming me back.
because I’m back. And yes, thank you, I had a wonderful time on
vacation. I wish you were there, honest. Well, okay some of
you.

Apparently, according to surveys, this is a high time of
stress for a lot of workers. Summer is drawing to a close,
the kids are driving you batty and/or getting ready to
return to school and/or draining your bank account as they
return to college. Holidays are over soon for a lot of folks,
and for those of you that experience a more relaxed pace over
the summer months, the real world awaits in a week or so,
as everyone gears back up to normal speed.

So make sure you build in some mini-breaks and fun
activities over the weeks and months ahead. Plan something
fun for late September or October so you have something to look
forward to. Plan a work social event for mid-fall. Start a
new humour program – this is the perfect time.

And find some way to remind yourself to keep having fun,
and to not take things too seriously. Take a cue from an Olympic
athlete – Carolina Kluft of Sweden, who is carrying a
stuffed Eeyore with her as her constant Olympic companion to
remind herself that first and foremost she is there to have fun.

2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip

Hold your own customized Olympic games. Domino’s Pizza has the
Pizza Olympics, while other companies and associations have held
everything from the Serving Olympics to the Accounting Olympics
(lots of paper cuts, from what I understand).

3. Quote of the Week

As seen on a t-shirt: The older I get, the better I was.

4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World

Here’s a few more unfortunately worded newspaper headlines I picked
up from the most recent issues of the Journal of Humor Studies
yes, someone actually wrote an academic paper on wacky newspaper
headlines)

20-Yead Friendship Ends at Altar

Collegians are Turning To Vegetables

Marijuana Issue Sent to Joint Committee

Two Sisters Reunited After 18 Years at Checkout Counter
