1. Spreading the Love

If you are an attached male, right about now you may be starting to
sweat a little, because the day of great expectations is
soon arriving. I have no good advice for you on this front. Sorry.

But on the workplace front, why not use the occasion to spread
a little much-needed love throughout the workplace? Even some of
the grouchiest, hard-nosed businesses leaders (the kind that eat
chards of metal for breakfast) are starting to realize that a little
workplace love and appreciation goes along way.

In fact, getting your employees to fall in love with their jobs is
a critical role of true leadership. And finding out a way to keep
or regain the love in your job is essential for maintaining
mental health and reducing stress levels.

Small gestures in romance can have huge payouts, just as they
do in the workplace. And just as some of you will be creating an
environment conducive to romance this Saturday evening, we need
to continually create a positive environment in the workplace
conducive to people performing their best and feeling good about
themselves. We need to create an environment where humor and
laughter become natural by-products of people feeling good
about themselves and their work.

So, although “spreading the love around” is probably not
the wisest course of action this Saturday, for our workplaces,
it may just be the key to unlocking people’s deepest passions.

2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip

Set up a mini-golf putting course through your office and hold
a team tournament. Get creative with obstacles and traps,
play down hallways, into the elevator, through the cafeteria or
onto the roof. It’s the next best thing to actually getting out
onto the course (well, okay, maybe the fifth best thing . . .)

3. Quote of the Week

“Laughter gives us distance. It allows us to step back from an
event, deal with it and then move on.” ~Bob Newhart

4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World – Here Comes the Judge

Here are a few laws that can only make you laugh . . .

– in North Dakota it is unlawful to fall asleep with shoes on
– in New York it is illegal to walk around with an ice cream
in your pocket on a Sunday
– in Denver, Colorado it is illegal to lend your vacuum
cleaner to your next-door neighbour

Happy hump day . . . ==============================================================
