1. At the Heart of the Matter

I trust everyone had a humor-filled Valentine’s Day, and
that everyone kept in mind, as we’ve reported here,
that humor activates the same part of the brain that
lights up when we’re in love!

And speaking of affairs of the heart. . . the American
Heart Association, who has officially reported
that a positive sense of humor may help reduce the risk of
a heart attack, has another rather surprising finding to
report: men whose wives come home upset because of work
are twice as likely to develop heart disease!

So for the women out their who love their men: this is
a great reason to make sure you’re having more fun at work!
And for the men out their who love their wives, this
is a fabulous reason to make sure your wife is having fun!
2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip

According to one study, there are 9 negative comments
to every 1 positive comment in the typical workplace. If
you’re one of those folks drowning in a sea of negativity,
then try a simple experiment. Start tallying the number of
negative vs. positive comments you hear in your workplace
over the course of a day, or even a week, and see how
your workplace compares. Although this might not sound like
a lot of fun, identifying the issue might go a long
ways toward raising awareness of the need to change.
Counting up the negative comments might also help you cope
by allowing you to be a dispassionate observer (like
a biologist studying monkeys – please see below).
3. Quote of the Week

“It is better to be a failure at something you love,
than to be a success at something you hate.” George Burns
4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World – Monkey Business

According to a survey conducted by
53% of workers feel as though they work with a bunch
of monkeys, while 20% feel like their boss is a monkey.
(Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go pick lice off
my assistant.) Happy Hump Day everyone – and watch the
monkey business!
