1. Book Recommendation Return on Imagination

When I think about a positive, healthy and inspiring kind of
workplace, I imagine the sort of environment where creativity
thrives. As we’ve mentioned oh so many times before, there is
an enormous link between humour, play and creativity, so to
foster a more creative workplace we always need think about
creating the type of workplaces where play and humour are part of the
on-going culture. And we need to think about ways of tapping into one
of the most undervalued human resources of all: our collective
imagination. Imagination is, after all, the currency and driving
force of creativity.

For those folks interested in creativity and in building a more
innovative work environment, “Return on Imagination” by Tom Wujec
and Sandra Muscat, is a must-read. The book has a playful design,
lots of food for thought, and truly inspiring ideas, making it
one of my current top business book recommendations.

2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip

Some psychologists believe the first hour of each day can have a
huge impact on the rest of our day: it sets the tone for
our outlook throughout the day.

So create a fun ritual for yourself and/or your coworkers to
start each day. Wal-Mart has their cheer (a little hokey but
hey, they seem to like it) while one company I worked with gave
each other a standing ovation for making it into the office
each morning.

5. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World

The folks at PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)
has offered the town of Hamburg, New York, $15,000 worth of
non-meat patties if they change their name from Hamburg to
Veggieburg.

I’m not making this up. Honest.
