The Hump Day Humor-Gram Issue #55, July 16th, 2003

Special Message: We at the Hump Day Express
will be taking our annual break and will return on
August 20th. If you haven’t taken your annual break
yet, we strongly encourage you to do so, in fact, why
not coincide your break with ours? We can even do something
together. . .

In this issue . . .

1. Break Before Your Break
2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip
3. Quote of the Week
4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World
1. Break Before Your Break

The best time to take a break is when you hear yourself say “I can’t
afford to take a break!”

Because the truth is, you can’t afford NOT to take a break. Not
Only short breaks, but long breaks too. According to the American
Heart Association, NOT taking your annual vacation is a sure fire
way to increase your risk of a heart attack. In fact, the recommended
dosage is at least two, if not three weeks away from it all every year.

Not only are breaks needed to maintain our mental and physical health,
they are also proven ways of boosting our productivity. Survey after
survey of entrepreneurs reveals that the more breaks they took (within
reason of course) the more productive and successful they became!

And by the by, since you’ve got me started on this, “within reason” varies
with who you are talking too: A lot of European countries think that
six weeks of holidays to START, is “within reason”.

And incidentally, “getting away from it all” doesn’t mean “getting away from SOME of it”. There’s a reason we call it getting away from it ALL! That means we need a break that includes no cell phones, no lap tops, no pagers, no ties, no erasers, no wastebaskets, no in-baskets . . .

So on that note, I’m off to break before I break. Have a wonderful
summer, and may the farce be with you for the entire summer!
2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip

Start a summer ritual of a “picnic in the park” with
employees. Make it a mid-week, hump day, pot luck event and get
everyone outside to the nearest green space.
3. Quote of the Week

If you can’t take a vacation this summer then remember
the oh-so-true words from the late Milton Berle:

“Laughter is an instant vacation.”
4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World

A New York event planner has started up the “Group for Increased
Average Name Tag Type” in an effort to encourage conference-goers
everywhere to write their names on their name tags a little
BIGGER,so that we can all see your NAME without having to
gawk at each other’s chests! They are recommending that folks should
always use a type that is a minimum of 24 points, or 3/8 of an inch.

If you would like to send money for this worthwhile endeavour,
please forward your money to my attention, and I’ll put it to
great use. (Did I mention I’m taking my annual break?)

Work hard! Play harder! Laugh hardest!
