1. Book Review: Dilbert and the Way of the Weasel

The latest offering from Scott Adams, “Dilbert and the Way of
The Weasel”, (HarperCollins, 2002), is a must read for
anyone working on our planet. It offers up the definitive
guide to weasel-dom in all aspects of our lives, focusing
primarily on the weasels we live amongst at the office. The
book is interspersed with Dilbert strips that illustrate the
at hand, as well as real life examples of weasel-like behaviour.
Chapters include such pithy topics as: Manager Weasels, Avoiding
Work the Weasel Way, and Whining Like a Weasel.

Some clients are surprised that I recommend Dilbert books to my
senior managerial clients. My reasoning is quite simple. There is
truth in all humor, and that’s the reason Adams’ cynical view of
the workplace is so darned popular. So I encourage
all my clients to check in with Dilbert on a regular basis,
particularly his latest book, so we know hot to spot weasels
(it’s really not that hard) and more importantly remind ourselves
how easy it is behave like a weasel.

So here’s wishing everyone at Hump Day a weasel-free 2004!
2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip

Before we get to late into the New Year, put together
a humorous workplace review of 2003. Create a top ten
wacky things that happened in your workplace in 2003, a humorous
article or create a fun skit for the next office meeting that
reviews some of the highlights a la a sports highlight tape.
3. Quote of the Week

“Not a shred of evidence exists in favour of the idea that life
is serious”. Brendan Gill
4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World

Here’s my wacky look back at some of the stories that made the
news in 2003:

-First nude airline flight took place
-The first international camel beauty pageant was held in China
-Scientists discover eating bats is bad for your brain
-Japanese scientists invented technology that will allow people
to e-mail their dog
-A mayor in Spain passed a law stating that husbands must stay
home on Thursday evenings
-A Japanese company developed spray-on tights
-The Palo Alto city council passed guidelines banning facial
-390,00 Brits listed their official religion is a survey as

And here’s to another wacky year ahead!
Happy Hump Day everyone!
