Get Serious About Having More Fun At Work!

1. Back at Work, Back at Play

Well, as they say, “Another year, another . . .um, well, year.”
According to numerous articles and surveys over the last week,
the top workplace/business issues of 2007 were: employee shortages,
employee retention, leadership training, and stress. And gee,
wouldn’t you know it, but all four of those issues tie
directly to our theme here, namely that if you want to have a
less stressful and more inspiring workplace that attracts
and keeps great people, then you need inspired leadership that
knows the importance of leading with laughter. So as you get back
to “serious” work in 2008, remember that when work is at its best,
there’s nothing more fun, and conversely, when you’re having fun,
it doesn’t feel like work!
2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip

This is the perfect time of year to get serious about having fun.
So why not take time today, or this week, or today (did I mention
today?) to set a few fun goals for the year:
– establish that “Fun at Work” committee you’ve always wanted
– set a date for a “Wacky Awards” ceremony
– do something outrageously fun for your top clients
– purchase copies of Mike’s excellent “340 Ways to Put
Humor” to Work e-book (this is a fabulous idea)
– start a humor library at your office (featuring Mike’s fabulous
“Putting Humor to Work” DVD and book collection)
– start a humor first aid kit for your office

Just do something to add more fun into your work life . . .
because life’s too short (please see below) not to have fun.
3. Quote of the Week

“Life is too short to be in a hurry.” Henry David Thoreau
(Unless, of course, you’re setting your fun goals for
2008 – please see above)
4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky, World

Okay, if you’re feeling bad because you already blew off a new
year’s resolution, just consider this story. The head of
the Portuguese agency responsible for enacting a new ban on
public smoking was caught lighting up at a New Year’s eve party in
a public place, thus becoming the first person of the new year to
break his own agency’s law.
