Humor at Work: Fun Ideas About Humor in the Workplace

================================================================
1. Humor Bits and Bites

It’s July, so in the interest of not getting too serious with
workplace “stuff”, here are a few random humor trivia tidbits
for you to mull over:
– In a Globe and Mail newspaper survey 74% of respondents said
that males have a better sense of humor than females
– Couples who laugh more together are more likely to stay together,
especially if they reminisce about shared moments of laughter
– When mothers laugh hours before breast-feeding their newborns,
the babies are less likely to suffer from allergic reactions to
dust mites (this is a GREAT conversation starter at your party)
– Just hearing a laugh activates neurons in the premotor cortex
that help prepare the face to smile
– Men rate sexist jokes as funnier when they DON’T have time to
think about them too long
– A New Zealand researcher found the workplaces with a less
rigid and formal culture had more laughter and humor
– A person’s willingness to sign an organ donor consent card
rises with their tendency to laugh
– 4/10th of a second after we hear the punch line of a joke and
just before we laugh a wave of electricity sweeps through the
cortex
– Laughter researcher Provine suggest that the first primate joke
to illicit laughter without physical contact was the old feigned
tickle trick

2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip

Use different colored flags as a fun way to display your feelings
at an employee retreat or meeting. For example, during meetings at
Sun Microsystems employees wave a black flag when they feel someone
is blocking a good conversation. Since using the black flag system,
they claim the level of conversation has improved.

3. Deep Thought of the Week

“Anyone can do any amount of work, so long as it isn’t the work
they are supposed to be doing.”

4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky, World

A prisoner in Colorado has sued a jail for not being escape-proof,
after falling 12-meters during his second escape attempt. Scott
Anthony Gomez Jr. is extremely upset that the jail did not make the
necessary security improvements after his first escape. (So if
this clown wins his case, what is he going to win exactly – a
lifetime of solitary confinement?

Happy Hump day everyone.
