1. But, When’s Their Hump Day?

Brazilian CEO Ricardo Semler is one of those inspirational
CEOs who is redefining the whole notion of work. Author of,
“The Seven-Day Weekend,” Semler encourages workers to go the
beach on nice days. In fact, he questions why it’s okay
to let work spill into our weekends, but not okay to
take in a matinee on a Wednesday. He has done away
with business plans, organizational structure, the HR
department and job descriptions. He lets his employees
pick their own boss, choose their own salary and work whenever
they feel like it. Which isn’t too say this is total la la
land – there are still firm expectations that workers
accomplish what they’re supposed to.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess that morale and
humor are pretty high at Semler. And here’s the real kicker for
all the sceptics that believed this would lead to total chaos:
since doing these changes the company has grown from $4 million
a year to $22 million, from 200 employees to 3,000 and has
expanded into two other countries with 15 offices.
2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip

Since I just appeared in a business magazine sharing three
embarrassing stories from my speaking career, I thought this
week’s fun at work tip should be to simply remind folks to
lighten up own yourself and laugh at your own bloopers. In fact,
go one better and start a blooper file or institute a blooper-
of-the-month award in your office.
3. Quote of the Week

“Love may make the world go around, but laughter keeps us from
getting dizzy.” Donald Zochert
4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World

According to a Cambridge professor, cows have eureka moments
and get excited when they solve a puzzle, even jumping in the
air for joy. (And you thought they just stood around all day
watching soaps. . .) Happy Hump Day everyone!
