1. Joy at Work

The book, “Joy at Work – A Revolutionary Approach to
Fun on the Job” by Dennis W. Bakke is a wonderful
reminder of the true key to workplace success,
happiness and fun. The book talks about the importance
of workplace values, and how if you give people
enough control over their work lives, if you create
a respectful and trusting work environment, and if
organizations truly walk the talk when it comes to
their core workplace values, then employees can’t help
but experience joy and fun at their jobs.

(Of course, in my humble opinion, a few free donuts,
hot tub and karaoke lounge wouldn’t hurt the cause.)

2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip

This one comes from a recent client who celebrates
“Wacky Wednesdays” – the perfect day to build in a
little fun as people make their way over the midweek hump.
Creating a fun, yet vague theme day like “Wacky Wednesdays”
allows folks the freedom to celebrate it any way they
wish: from wearing a wacky tie or socks that day, to
doing something a little wacky to kick off the day to
building in a wacky event into your staff meeting.

3. Quote of the Week

“People ask me, ‘Steve, how do you get so funny?’
I say to them, ‘Before I go onstage I put a fish in
each shoe. That way I just feel funny.'” Steve Martin

4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World

Organizers of a conference at the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology are inviting time travellers from the
future to attend a conference. Organizers have even
provided would be time travellers with the exact longitude
and latitude of where to meet, in case the university no
longer exists in the future. And to make sure they don’t
have impostors showing up, they are asking that any back
from the future time travellers please bring along proof,
such as a solution for world poverty!

Sadly, so far all attendees at the conference are from the
present, save for one individual claiming to be from
the year 2006. Wow. How can you not laugh at our species?

Have fun everyone! Remember, if you live each day like
it was you’re last day on earth, sooner or later you’ll
be right!
