Humor at Work: It’s a Jungle Out There!

Welcome to June, official Dairy Month, Zoo Month, and Adopt-
-a-Cat Month! You’ll want to mark June 19th on your calendars –
that’s World Sauntering Day (I’ve been practicing the last two
weeks flat out), and, also note that according to research
from the University of Cardiff, June 24th tends to be the
happiest day of the year(on average), so please plan accordingly.
1. It’s a Jungle Out There – So Start Laughing

The Bambuti pygmies of the Congo jungles know a thing or two
about using humor in difficult office situations. Okay, maybe
not so much office situations, but heck, everyone says that work
is a jungle, so maybe we can still learn something from them.
The Bambuti designate an official “camp clown”, whose job is to
diffuse any tribal interpersonal conflict my tapping into his
inner clown. By mocking the tension, or humorously taking on the
blame himself through his hilarious (so I’m told) antics, he
resolves conflicts in a non-violent manner, leaving everyone
rolling on the ground. The “clown” may also mock the folks
involved in the conflict, which in an office situation might
not be the best approach, but in the jungles of the Congo,
seems to work out just fine. So there’s your humor/pygmy trivia
for the week. (And who says you don’t learn anything from these?)
2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip

Make that boring, often lonely, depressing and scary trek to the
office photocopier more interesting by posting a different photo
above the copier each day, with paper underneath where employees
can add a caption to match the photo. Best caption of the day or
week wins the, wait for it. . .“Best Caption of the Week” prize!
3. Deep Thought of the Week

“To err is human – to blame it on someone else is politics.”
4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky, World

Here are a few real life, real confusing road signs:

Happy hump day everyone. Watch out for the curves.
