1. Putting Humor to Work at Barney’s

“One night at Barney’s Motel will cure you from sleeping around.”

Barney’s Motel in Brandon, Manitoba knows a lot about the
power of humor. If you don’t believe me, check out their
hilarious web site at .

By injecting humor into everything they do, Barney’s is
standing out from the pack, and has increased their sales by
40% over two years. The humor is created by the manager
Barry Williams (no, not the same fellow that played
Greg on the Brady Bunch), a naturally funny guy with a
great sense of ha ha.

Barney’s web site, for example, tells prospective guests that
if you give Barney’s some advanced warning, they will be happy
to tip over some empty beers cans and leave a head of rotting
lettuce in the fridge so that you’ll feel right at home!

>From humorous help wanted ads (“Travel the world! Learn about
exotic places! Okay, clean the rooms of people who have
traveled the world and learn about exotic places while you
clean!”) to joke books in the rooms to funny posters that poke
fun at themselves, Barney’s rates a major belly laugh on the old
fun meter and is one business that definitely knows how to
put humor to work.
2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip

Come up with your own personal workplace slogan – something that
captures your personality, work or slant on the business you’re
in. Post it on your office door, add it to your business card,
and include it on your e-mail signature file.
3. Deep Thought of the Week

You know you are having a bad day when you realize you are
not even a household name in your own house.
4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World

This just in. Scientists have discovered something that I have
long suspected: eating bats is bad for your brain. So please,
if someone offers you some left over bat from Halloween, just
say NO!
