1. Make Work More Rewarding By Removing Barriers

Research into what motivates us at work to be happy little
campers suggests that often it’s a matter of removing barriers or
obstacles in the way of doing the work. These de-motivators are
not always obvious – things like outdated workplace policies that
may inadvertently be squashing people’s performance without us
even knowing it.

The solution? We need to spend time having real discussions in
our workplaces about not only what drives us to perform better,
but about what slows us down.

2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip

Remember to celebrate Halloween at work too!:

Encourage folks to dress up and hold a contest for best costume.
Get your front line workers dress up-customers love this!

Hold a theme for your costumes-have folks dress up as something
related to your business.

Hold an hour of “trick or treat” at the end of the day for
Employees’ children.

Send out “Happy Halloween” cards/treats to your favourite
clients.

Give a prize to the best costume one of your customers wears into
your place of business.

Serve pumpkin pie at your staff meeting.

Hold a pumpkin carving contest.

Dress up real scary and scare the heck out of each other.

3. Quote of the Week

“Life is something you do when you can’t go to sleep.” Fran
Lebowitz

4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World

You read it here first (okay, maybe second):Cell phone users
in Japan will soon be able to receive e-mail messages from . . .
wait for it . . . their dogs. Yup. A digital signal sent via
a special dog collar will translate your pooch’s woofs, barks
and growls into human speech to give you, the pet owner,
an update on your doggy’s mood.

Happy Hump Day! May the farce continue to be with you . . .
