1. Use Humor to Dampen Conflicts

Humor has been shown in studies, time and time again, to help
reduce conflicts in the workplace by helping people to
establish a positive tone in their working relationship. The
actual content of conversations tends to, for the most part,
fade rapidly with time; but the context we remember much
longer. That’s why the use of humor can be such a strong
relationship building tool, because people will tend to
remember the emotional tone of the conversations they have
with other workers for a long time.

Furthermore, Dr. Robert Baron, a psychology professor at
the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, concluded that
confrontations at work depended primarily on HOW people
said things, rather than WHAT they said. With this in mind,
he devised a study to test just how useful the use of humor

It’s September! So don’t forget to celebrate Official Breakfast
Month, Piano Month, Cat Health Month, Chicken Month, Cable TV
Month and, perhaps most importantly of all, Courtesy Month.

Okay, so maybe don’t try and tackle all of these. Just pick
one and have some fun with it.

And better still, create your own annual calendar,
designating each month as an Official “_________” Month
specific to your workplace.
3. Quote of the Week

Some great advice: “Live each day as if it was the FIRST day
of your marriage, and the LAST day of your vacation.” Anon.
4. It’s a Wacky, Wacky World

There is a new exercise DVD out, this time for infants. Yes,
that’s right. Evidently it’s never to early to start your wee
one on the right track. The DVD is geared to children as young
as six-weeks old. Of course, you may need to help them operate
the DVD player.

Happy Humpday everyone. Keep having fun!
