1. Monkey Business

A newspaper article last week reminds us of the importance
of treating employees fairly in the workplace. Even monkeys
know this.

A research project discovered that when monkeys witnessed their
fellow monkeys receiving greater rewards than what they received
for performing the exact same task, they refused to perform their
“work”! In some cases, the monkeys even threw the original reward
(a slice of cucumber) back at the trainer in disgust, after
the monkey had seen his fellow primates getting a much better
treat as a reward. And when the monkeys saw fellow monkeys
getting rewarded for doing absolutely NOTHING, well, frankly,
they went a little bananas!

So the question of the day . . . Is there monkey business going
on in your workplace?

2. Mike’s Fun at Work Tip

And speaking of monkey business . . . one of the simplest things
you can do to add some fun in the workplace, shake out the
cobwebs, spark creativity and banish stress is to engage your
bodies more, especially in a playful manner.

Getting up out of your seats and away from your computer
monitors helps relax your eye muscles and increase oxygen flow
to your brain. And moving around playfully can loosen
up your entire bodies and activate both sides of your brain.

So take a page from the fictional T.V. staff of The West Wing
and go for a brisk stroll around the corridors now and then.
Break up a long meeting by getting folks up out of their
chairs and doing a playful dance. Even the simple act of swinging
your arms up in the air like a child is believed to improve your
state of mind, so get up out of your chairs, skip down the
hallways now and then, dance the fun dance, bring a hula hoop to
work, walk backwards down the stairs, walk like a monkey . . .
just do something that gets you moving in a playful fun way!

Travel Humor Advisory

Those of you planning a trip to Bosnia in the near future should
heed the following warning.

“Blonde jokes” are very popular in Bosnia. Now, however, due to
new gender equity laws, Bosnian blondes are able to sue anyone
who tells jokes that offend them, including, yes blonde jokes.

Happy Hump Day everyone! May the farce be with you.
