Are You Dancing Your Way Through Your Workday?
I don’t care what you do for a living, there are always ways to make your work more fun! There is always a way to bring your enthusiasm, personality, and humor to anything you do. There’s always a way to brighten someone else’s day, whether it’s your customers or your coworkers, with a little wacky humor.
I’ve heard flight attendants sing the in-flight safety announcements and I’ve seen highway flagmen dance up a storm. I’ve watched a security officer at the San Francisco airport charm the entire crowd with his sense of humor as he made hilarious comments about everyone’s shoes as he assessed whether or not they needed to be removed for security.
Years ago, while on a two-week fitness kick (I bet you’ve been there?), a hotel maid had me in stitches. She genuinely seemed to enjoy her job, so much so that I told her how I research great places to work for a living, and asked her if this was a place I should look into.
Her response was rather unexpected: “Oh, hell no!”
“Then why,” I asked, “are you like this?”
Her response, as trite as it may seem, sums up the importance of choosing an exceptional attitude each and every day and choosing to bring your sense of humor along for the ride.
“When I’m like this, when I bring this attitude to work the days go by twice as fast, I have less conflict, I am less stressed out, I feel better at the end of the day, I get bigger tips, AND when I have a favor to ask my boss or a coworker, they ALWAYS say yes to me!”
So on those days when you’re feeling like nothing is going right or your boss is acting like a jerk or a customer just yelled at you or you feel like you have the worst job on the planet…think about this guy.
