Connect Employees With “Ask Me?” Theme Days
Tired of employees working in silos?
One of the biggest complains I hear from my clients revolves around those dreaded silos – people working in isolation without connecting across teams or sharing information with each other. Working in silos creates miscommunication, impedes innovation, and results in people working at cross purposes with one another. Here’s a simple, fun way to help employees connect with one another at work: hold a regular theme day (perhaps once a month) where employees wear a stick-on adhesive name tags that reads “Ask me about ______.” Then encourage employees to fill in the blank with whatever they want to be asked about – it might be a project they are working on, a business book they recently read, or a new initiative their department is starting up.
Some of the theme days can be focused on more personal questions: “Ask me about my travel plans this winter” or “Ask me about my dog T-Rex.” It’s a great way to spark curiosity, drive more conversations, build relationships, build trust and break down those dreaded workplace silos.
